Ninevah was facing destruction. Jonah was sent by God to give them warning. But Jonah was having none of it. He refused at first but God changed his mind when he was swallowed by a big fish.
The Ninevites were known for having killed many of his people in the past. He wanted the city destroyed. Just like us when we don’t really want a nasty person to get saved.
But God is a God of mercy, no matter your past. When Jonah finally delivered the proclamation, everyone from the king on down repented and were saved. It did not sit well with Jonah and he complained. Amazing God let Jonah live. Amazing He lets us live too.
